At Hendrick Chevrolet Hoover, our Chevrolet Certified technicians take your service needs seriously. Brakes are a crucial piece of safety equipment that are important to maintain. A vehicle’s brake system is the main equipment used to stop your vehicle. If they fail you are endangering yourself, passengers, and other drivers. The constant stopping of your vehicle will eventually wear out the brake pads. An obvious indication that your brakes need attention is a high pitched squealing when stopping. Brakes should be checked if ANY noise is heard. This is caused by an indicator built on the brake pad, its sole purpose is to make an irritating noise to warn of an impending brake pad change. Once heard, the brake pads should be changed within the month to keep from ruining the rotors. Other signs that the brake pads have worn include taking longer to stop, or the brake pedal travels a lot further when pressed than it did in the past. Changing the brake pads can be a labor intensive process. The wheels and tires are removed exposing the rotor and brake assembly. The brake assembly must be taken apart and the new brake pad installed. The difference new brake pads make does not go unnoticed. Rotors can usually last through three brake pad changes, if you feel vibration in your steering wheel when you stop, you should probably have your rotors changed. Regular brake checks are easy to do and vital to the life of your brake pads and rotors.
